David Montague is the director of the Memphis Teacher Residency. Prior to the MTR, David served for two years with Campus Crusade with Christ in East Asia. From 2000-2005, David was the Director of Service Over Self, an urban home-repair ministry. From 1987-2000, David was a Managing Director with Morgan Keegan, an investment brokerage firm. On Monday, 28 college students from Iowa and Texas met up at Peabody Elementary in Cooper Young to do several projects around the campus. These students came to Memphis in partnership with the Choose 901 campaign. Team One worked all day building garden boxes that had been awarded to the school with a grant. John M. Perkins is a sharecropper’s son who grew up in New Hebron, Mississippi amidst dire poverty. Fleeing to California at age 17 after his older brother’s murder at the hands of a town marshal, he vowed never to return.
